The new science building, Duane W. Acklie Hall of Science was the first building erected in 36 years on the NWU campus, housing the biology, chemistry, and psychology departments. The building was part of the "BOLD campaign" aiming to create new spaces for students. The building is designed to be a showcase of teaching and research space with an eye toward the future through the idea of "science on display." A prominent feature on the East side of the building is utilizing metal Sieccoline panels to create an almost frame-like patio structure further emphasizing "science on display."
